Bowtie Analysis Fundamentals

About

Bowtie approach is a qualitative risk analysis tool that helps the operational and maintenance teams to focus on barriers (i.e., preventive and mitigative safeguards) to maintain operational safety. A Bowtie diagram is a graphical representation of how an unwanted event can occur, the potential resulting consequences, and how these can be controlled and/or mitigated. The Bowtie analysis identifies threats and consequences associated with a specific hazard and determines the necessary barriers to manage the risk. Bowties offer a systematic way to identify safety critical elements (SCEs) and activities. This webinar is aimed at providing the basics of Bowtie study technique, how to construct an effective bowtie using the threats, controls, top events, escalation factors and outcomes, and how to use the Bowtie to identify the safety critical elements (SCEs) and activities.
