Details

This 1-day, foundation level course for engineers reviews the key areas associated with pipe sizing for oil and gas facilities. The course is focused on four areas:

  • Codes and standards.
  • Line sizing.
  • Pipe materials.
  • Piping components.

Applicable piping codes for oil and gas facilities (ISO, B31.3, API 14E, etc.), pipe sizing calculations, and materials selection are an integral part of the course. The emphasis is on line sizing calculation for liquid, gas and mixed phases, and specification of piping systems.

This training course is ideal for process, mechanical, facilities, plant, and piping engineers, as well as designers who are involved in the hydraulic calculation and piping material selection for oil and gas facilities.

At the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Apply piping system codes and standards.
  • Know about line sizing for different application: Pump, Compressor, Flare, Steam system.
  • Understand key considerations for flare and vent systems, including the PSV inlet/outlet line sizing.
  • Perform FIV and AIV Calculation.
  • Appreciate the difference between surge and slug flow, as well as different types of flow regimes, and how to avoid detriment flow regimes for each individual application.
  • Compare alternative materials of construction.
  • Know piping Material Specifications.

Mr. Ahmad Emadi is an IChemE Fellow and Lead/Principal Process Engineer with more than 18 years of engineering design experience in international consultant engineering companies such Technip, Jacobs, WorleyParsons, KBR, Uhde, WoodGroup PSN, and Hyundai in different engineering stages (Basic & FEED, Detail Design, Pre-commissioning, Commissioning) as well as in operations. Ahmad has got a unique experience in diverse plants: FPSO, offshore platforms, onshore gas plants, compressor stations and multi-phase pipelines.
Ahmad has worked for the top Oil & Gas operator companies in the world: Shell, ExxonMobil, TOTAL, Chevron, BP, BG, BHP Billiton, and Eni, through different projects over his 18-year experience. These opportunities have enabled him to select and adopt the optimum design for each specific equipment in the Oil & Gas plant as per client specification and requirement.
Ahmad is also a part time lecturer in Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and delivers a number of training courses for the RMIT Chemical Engineering students.
