Fire Water Network Analysis – Transient

Introduction

The Firewater Network Transient analysis is used for the analysis of transient flow in all types of networks employing a liquid. It models flows and forces in pipe networks and how they evolve with time.

The firewater system should be designed in such a way that the total demand calculated will be maintained at the outlets with a minimum required pressure. The firewater distribution piping shall be designed in such a way that water flows evenly to all parts of the network and shall be able to isolate any section of a network without affecting other loops.

Objectives:

The need for the fire water network analysis is to determine:

  • To identify and document all surge cases to dimension systems.
  • To perform and analyse the transient phenomena of either surge or vacuum in the firewater network.
  • To propose any recommendation required to reduce the surge or vacuum pressure to maintain thevintegrity of firewater network.

Methodology

Results

The result shows how simulation of Transient module could be used in finding a method of bringing the pressure surge down to an acceptable level.
